FLSA Myths Debunked

I love this article: Dispelling Common Myths About the FLSA’s Overtime Requirements! I don’t think I’ve seen before such a complete list of myths surrounding overtime and the Fair Labor Standards Act, all laid out in one place. The authors have done a great job of presenting the relevant wage and hour issues and clearly explaining the facts.
Best of all (and somewhat surprising considering it was written by a couple of lawyers — no offense to any lawyers who happen to be reading here), it’s all in easy-to-understand plain English! And it’s a fun read! Doesn’t get any better than that, folks.
From common misconceptions (“all our employees are salaried, so we don’t have to pay overtime”) to the lesser-known (“Our employees signed an agreement waiving overtime pay, so we’re safe”), they cover virtually all of the mistaken ideas about overtime pay that can get a business in deep doo-doo if the Department of Labor comes a-knockin’.
For the health of your business, I highly recommend you read this informative (and entertaining!) look at FLSA myths. Seriously. Even if you think you’re in the clear, take a look at it. See, the problem with myths is that those who believe them often aren’t aware the things they believe are myths in the first place. This is definitely a case of what you don’t know being able to hurt you.
