So, contrary to popular opinion, I don’t know everything.

I came across this interesting statistic recently… apparently, almost 85% of workers in the USA are eligible for overtime pay. You know, I did not know that!

But it’s true, according to HR Morning. They also make the very good point that some compensable time may not appear on an employee’s time card or time sheet — such as travel time, “donning and doffing” time, and so forth.

Yet if you don’t pay employees for this time, you risk being assessed back wages, penalties and fines. So it pays to be alert! Make sure you know how your employees are spending their work-related time, even if it doesn’t show up on the “official” time sheet.

(And, of course, making sure you pay them properly for all applicable time.)
