Furlough FAQs

The US DOL has put together a handy list of frequently asked questions (and their answers, which makes the document even more useful!) related to furloughs. It’s a PDF, making it easy to download and/or print out for your perusal.
I know a lot of small businesses are looking for creative ways to ride out the current economy, cutting costs without losing valuable employees — because they know they’ll need those employees when things pick back up. But you don’t want to get so creative you end up getting yourself in trouble with the DOL, because those wage-and-hour violiation fines and penalties can easily eat up any cost savings you might have realized.
If you’re contemplating furloughs — or if you’ve already implemented them — and you want to make sure you’re doing them the right way, this document may prove to be helpful. Check it out!
